Project selection
MicroStrategy Web allows you to select or change the current project. To select a project:
- Click the Home icon
at the top left of the page.
- Choose the project directly from the list on the main screen of the project (Welcome) page (default.asp).
Note: You may have to re-enter your login credentials to gain access to another project.
If you want to log in to another project manually, select the logout option, which disconnects you from all projects you are logged in to and directs you to the project (Welcome) page. MicroStrategy Web requires you to re-enter your login credentials to access a new project.

Start page
MicroStrategy Web allows you to select and
customize a default start page that appears when you log in. To change the start page:
- After logging in to a project, click Preferences
at the top of the page.
- In the Default start page field, select one of the following:
- Default Start Page
Allows you to select one of the start pages in the
drop-down list. This takes you to one of the existing pages in the project
once you have logged in. The available options are Home, Summary, History
List, My Subscriptions, My Reports, Shared Reports, Create Report, and Create
Document.
- Last Folder or Last Report
Allows you to select a report, HTML
document, or folder as your default start page:
- To select a report or HTML document as your start page, run the desired report or HTML document then repeat steps 1 and 2 above. The Last report or Last document option button appears below the Default start page field. Select it to use the last report or
HTML document you accessed as the default start page.
- To select a folder as your start page, go to the
desired folder, and then go to the
User Preferences page and repeat steps 1 and 2 above. The Last folder option button appears below the Default start page field followed by the name of the folder. Select it to use that folder as the default start page.
Notes:
- By default, MicroStrategy Web uses the Home
(Welcome) page as its start page.
- Project Status may be displayed on the project home
page when you log in. This feature, which is enabled by the Web
Administrator, displays informational messages about the selected project.
- You may not have permission to change the default start page preference. For further information, contact your administrator.
List view/Large icons view
You can view
reports, documents, HTML documents, and folders in either a list view or a large
icons view:
- To display objects in a list view, click the View: List
icon
on the upper right of any folder page.
- To display objects as large icons, click the View: Icon
icon
on the upper right of any folder page.
Folder path
While you are browsing folders,
MicroStrategy Web displays the full folder path on the top of your page. You can
go to any folder in the path by clicking the folder's name.
Click the Return To
icon
to navigate to browse to the next highest folder.
Descriptions of reports, documents, and HTML
documents
If a description was added when a report, document, HTML
document, or folder was created or saved, MicroStrategy Web displays it under or
beside the item while you are browsing folders. Report, document, and HTML
document descriptions are also displayed on the Wait page while the request is
executing. Report and HTML document descriptions are displayed on the items'
Details pages.
Date last modified
The Modified
field, displayed under or beside all items listed on the folder pages, shows the
date and time that each was last modified.
Owner of reports, documents, and HTML documents
The Owner field, displayed under or
beside all items listed on the folder pages, shows the owner of each. The owner
is also listed on the report or HTML Document Details
page.
Creating a new folder
If
you have the security privilege to do so, you can create new folders in Web
while browsing. You can name these folders and use them to store and organize
your work. To create a folder while browsing:
From List or Large icon view:
- DHTML or HTML: While already browsing within a folder, click the
Create Folder icon
located at the
top left of the screen. The Create Folder dialog is displayed.
- Specify a name and, if you wish, a description of the
new folder.
- Click OK. Your
new folder is displayed on the screen.
Copying
You can copy reports, documents,
folders, and HTML documents from MicroStrategy Web while browsing. After
copying an object, you can place it in a folder of your choice. To copy an
object while browsing:
From List or Large icon view:
- DHTML: Right-click the object you want to
copy, then select Copy. The Copy dialog box is displayed.
HTML: The Copy function is not
available if DHTML is disabled.
- Navigate to the folder into which
you want to copy the object and click OK. The item is
instantly copied to the folder you specify.
Moving
You can move reports,
documents, folders, and HTML documents to another location while
browsing. To move items while browsing:
From List or Large icon view:
- DHTML: Right-click the object you want to
move, then select Move. The Move
dialog box is displayed.
HTML: The Move function is not available if
DHTML is disabled.
- Navigate to the folder into which you
want to move the object and click OK. The item is
instantly moved to the folder you specify.
Note: You may not have permission to
move items. For further information, contact your administrator.
Deleting
You
can delete reports, documents, folders, and HTML documents from MicroStrategy Web while
browsing:

If you are viewing items in List view:
- DHTML: Right-click the object you want to
delete, then select Delete. MicroStrategy
Web asks for a delete confirmation.
HTML: Click the
Delete icon
in the Actions column for the object you want to delete.
- To delete the item, click Delete; to cancel the delete process, click Cancel.

If you are viewing objects in Large icons view:
- DHTML: Right-click the object you want to
delete, then select Delete. MicroStrategy Web asks for a delete confirmation.
HTML: Click
the Delete link under the object you want to delete.

To delete the item, click Delete; to cancel the delete process, click Cancel.

Renaming
You can
rename reports, documents, folders, and HTML documents from MicroStrategy
Web while browsing. To rename items while browsing:
From List or Large icon view:
- DHTML: Right-click the object you want to
rename, then select Rename. The Rename dialog box is displayed.
HTML: The Rename function is
not available if DHTML is disabled.
- Specify a new name for
the item and click OK.
Note: You may not have permission to
rename items. For further information, contact your administrator.
Viewing object properties
You can
view the properties of reports, documents, folders, and HTML documents from
MicroStrategy Web while browsing. To view properties while browsing:
From List or Large icon view:
- DHTML: Right-click the object whose properties you
want to view.
HTML: The View Properties function is not
available if DHTML is disabled. You can, however, view some object properties in the
List view.

Select Properties. The Properties page dialog box
is displayed with information about the owner of the item, the date it was last modified, its location, name, type,
description, and ID.
Creating shortcuts to objects
You can
create shortcuts to reports, documents, folders, and HTML documents from
MicroStrategy Web while browsing. To create shortcuts to objects while
browsing:
From List or Large icon view:
- DHTML: Right-click the object for which you want to create a
shortcut, then select Create Shortcut.
The Create Shortcut dialog box is displayed.
HTML: The Create Shortcut function is
not available if DHTML is disabled.
- Navigate to the folder into which you wish to save
the new shortcut and click OK.
Direct Export
You can export a report, HTML document, or
document directly while browsing in folders, without having to view it first.
- If you are viewing items in List view:
- Click the Export icon
located in the Actions column for the object you want to export.
- If the report contains a prompt, answer the prompt and click Run in View Mode.
- Define the export options and click Export.

If you are viewing items in Large icons view:
- Click the Export link below the object you want to export.
- If the report contains a prompt, answer the prompt and click Run in View Mode.
- Define the export options and click Export.
Direct Export to PDF
You can
export
a report or document to PDF directly while browsing in folders, without having to
view the report first.

If you are viewing items in List view:
- Click the PDF icon
located in the Actions column for the object you want to export.
- If the report contains a prompt, answer the prompt and click Export.
- Define the export options and click Export.
- If you are viewing items in Large icons view:
- Click the PDF link below the object you want to export.
- If the report contains a prompt, answer the prompt and click Export.
- Define the export options and click Export.
Showing the Related Reports
panel
From both Design mode and View mode, you can display a panel that contains links to reports that Web considers
related to the report with which you are currently working. To access the Related
Reports panel, click the black right arrow located on the far left corner
of the Design mode or View mode pages. The Related Reports panel displays. Click a
report name to execute the given report. Click the arrow again to close
the panel.
